CHILD FIND
Child Find is a compenent of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that requires states to identify, locate, and evaluate all children with disabilities, aged birth to 21, who are in need of early intervention or special education services. The intent of Child Find is that all children from birth through age 21 with delays or disabilities are identified, located and evaluated to receive the supports and services they need.
Child Find is a continuous process of public awareness activities, screening and evaluation designed to locate, identify, and refer as early as possible all children birth through 21 with disabilities and their families who are in need of Early Intervention Program (Part C) or Special Education (Part B/619) services of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) . In order to receive early intervention or special education services, a child must be evaluated to confirm they have a delay or disability that falls under state definitions. All eligible children will receive educational services and/or related services.
